XHC6016B Short-Range Monochrome Starlight Camera for Perimeter and Facility Security

Editorial Team

The XHC6016B delivers 770 m person detection at 0.0005 lux via a 16 mm F2.0 fixed-focus monochrome lens, extending short-range perimeter detection 230 m beyond the colour variant for low-light facility and access control nodes.

Short-range perimeter nodes and access control cameras operating in environments with minimal ambient lighting encounter a sensitivity threshold that colour cameras routinely cross in the darkest conditions: starlight-only illumination at the outermost approach to a facility gate, an unlit parking perimeter, or a remote infrastructure access point can fall below the minimum illumination floor of colour CMOS systems operating at wide-angle focal lengths, leaving a detection gap in the hours when threat activity is statistically most probable. Monochrome operation at the same optics reliably closes that gap, and at 16 mm focal length the sensitivity advantage translates directly into an additional 230 m of person detection range.

Maximum Short-Range Sensitivity in the XHC6 Series

The XHC6016B extends person detection to 770 m at 0.0005 lux minimum illumination at 25 fps, built around a 1.5-inch monochrome CMOS sensor with 10 µm pixel pitch and a 16 mm equivalent F2.0 fixed-focus wide-angle lens. Monochrome CMOS operation at identical optics to the colour XHC6016C delivers approximately twice the sensitivity, pushing the illumination floor to 0.0002 lux at 5 fps and extending detection range from 540 m to 770 m. The 75° horizontal field of view maintains full sector coverage without pan-tilt hardware in a fixed-stare configuration suited to access control approach lanes, vehicle gate approaches, and short-range perimeter fence lines.

Facility Gate and Unlit Perimeter Node Applications

Remote infrastructure facilities including pipeline pumping stations, energy generation sites, and water treatment installations require perimeter sensors that function reliably in zero artificial illumination conditions across the full overnight cycle. The XHC6016B is specified for these roles over its colour equivalent where facility operators have assessed that the additional 230 m detection range and the deeper sensitivity floor justify the trade, typically in perimeter zones where the distance from detection to the controlled access point provides sufficient response time. The fixed-focus 16 mm optic with depth of field from 2 m to infinity eliminates motorised focus components, simplifying maintenance across large-volume perimeter node deployments.

Fleet Integration Across XHC6 Series Sensor Networks

Perimeter networks that deploy both colour and monochrome XHC6 Series nodes achieve optimised sensitivity-to-cost ratios by positioning B-series monochrome sensors at outer and unlit perimeter positions and C-series colour sensors at inner zones and access points where lighting conditions are better managed. The XHC6016B shares ONVIF, RTSP, and PELCO protocol compliance over RJ45 with Wi-Fi and optional 4G LTE across the XHC6 family, allowing mixed colour and monochrome node networks to be managed from a single command infrastructure. The XHM6016B bare module variant is available for OEM integration into body-worn systems, compact vehicle-mount enclosures, and multi-camera perimeter tower assemblies.
