XHC6016C Short-Range Colour Starlight Camera for Access Control and Perimeter Nodes

Editorial Team

The XHC6016C delivers 540 m person detection at 0.001 lux full-colour starlight imaging via a fixed-focus 16 mm F2.0 wide-angle lens, providing passive wide-area colour coverage at access control points and short-range perimeter nodes.

Access control positions and short-range perimeter nodes present a sensor requirement that long-range telephoto surveillance systems are poorly matched to: wide-area coverage at ranges up to 600 m from a fixed installation, in full colour from dusk through pre-dawn, without active illumination that would interfere with security lighting management or reveal camera positions to personnel under observation. Wide-angle passive colour cameras suited to that role have historically been constrained to daytime operation or required supplemental IR illumination after dark, forcing installations to accept either reduced night coverage or active illumination overhead that many facility operators prefer to avoid.

Wide-Angle Colour Starlight Imaging at Access Control Range

The XHC6016C addresses that requirement with a 1.5-inch CMOS sensor and 10 µm pixel pitch behind a 16 mm equivalent F2.0 fixed-focus wide-angle lens, delivering full-colour person detection to 540 m at 0.001 lux minimum illumination at 25 fps. The 75° horizontal field of view covers the approach corridor geometry of most facility gate entries, parking areas, and access control approach lanes in a single fixed-mount configuration without pan-tilt hardware. Recognition extends to 135 m and identification to 84 m day and night, providing operators actionable colour imagery during the approach phase when intervention is still operationally feasible.

Access Control and Perimeter Node Deployment

Facility security programmes deploying the XHC6 Series in a tiered architecture position the XHC6016C at access control points and inner perimeter nodes where wide-angle passive colour coverage takes priority over detection range. The fixed-focus 16 mm optic eliminates motorised focus components and the associated maintenance they require over multi-year operational cycles, making the XHC6016C a reliable choice for high-volume perimeter node deployments. AI video analytics with global alert, cross-border alert, and regional alert modes activates at ranges above 45 m, providing automated event detection across the access approach corridor without continuous operator monitoring.

Complementary Role in Multi-Tier XHC6 Deployments

Within a tiered XHC6 Series surveillance architecture, the XHC6016C provides the inner identification layer that works in concert with mid-range XHC6060C-ABF nodes and outer-range XHC6160C-ABF positions to cover the full detection-to-identification range band from a coordinated sensor network. All models share ONVIF, RTSP, and PELCO protocol support over RJ45 with integrated Wi-Fi and optional 4G LTE. The XHM6016 bare module variant provides the fixed-focus 16 mm imaging core for OEM integrators building compact enclosures, body-worn systems, and vehicle-mounted short-range sensing platforms.
